Although we are small, we are happy to celebrate the sacraments in whichever authorized form you prefer: that is, by using the current English or Spanish ritual books or the Latin books of 1962.

We are the only Catholic church in the Veneta-Elmira area under the direction of Archbishop Alexander Sample of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon. As that is defined in canons 205, 209 and 750-54 we are, and always choose to be, in the full communion of the Catholic Church under our Archbishop and Pope Francis, the Roman Pontiff. The canons (205) define full communion as being joined to Christ in the visible structure of the Catholic Church by the bonds of the profession of faith, the sacraments, and ecclesiastical governance. We want no part of schism or even the appearance of schism, which is defined by the canons (751) as the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or (the refusal) of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please call the church office.
Again, we wish to welcome you to the West Lane Community and hope you will soon find yourselves feeling quite at home here!
We are a small and welcoming community conscious of our call to live the Word of God in daily life. Offering Him fitting worship and praise in the Eucharist in both English and Latin, we are sent by Jesus to love and serve others. Please drop in so we can get to know you!
St. Catherine is a very active parish with about 150 registered families and there is always something going on! For example:
There are periodic Adult classes in ongoing faith formation and an Adult Education insert often appears in our Parish Bulletin. An archive of these teachings can be found here on this website. We welcome new members into the Catholic family through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).
The Altar Society is a service and fund-raising group open to all adults of the parish. One of its ministries is hosting funeral dinners for bereaved families in the parish. Our homebound parishioners are brought Holy Communion by lay Holy Communion Ministers to the Sick. The sacraments are available on request.
The local St Vincent de Paul Conference, with the active support of many of our parishioners, and significant financial support from the parish, is active in helping the people of our local community.
We have some potlucks, and other social events during the year. “Friendship Sunday” coffee hours are held between the Masses on designated Sundays.
St. Catherine is the home of THE ANNUAL FERN RIDGE BEEF PIT BBQ – held every year on the last Sunday in July. This is the longest running annual fund-raising event in Lane County!
